Making life easier for joint and group account holders with Equitel

Do you find that whenever you need to make a payment or withdrawal for your joint or group account, you have to look for one another, leading to major delays and inconveniences?

Now you can with Equitel multiple approval which eliminates the need to physically meet to withdraw cash or co-sign a cheque.

With Equitel multiple approval you simply originate a request to withdraw cash on your Equitel menu. The request is then sent to other account signatories who in turn enter their PIN to approve the withdrawal request.

Your PIN is your signature!

Who can use this service?

This service is available to any Equity member that has:

A joint account
A chama account
An investment group account

What do I need to get this service?

An active joint or group account
Each official or signatory must have his / her own Equitel line
Link your Equitel line to your Joint/Group account

How do we set up our joint or group account on Equitel?

It is easy to set up your joint or group account on your Equitel line wherever you are. One of your officials or signatories will follow these simple steps:

Go to your Equitel Menu
Select My Money
Select Others
Select Link my other account/card
Select Link my other account
Enter PIN
Select Add account
Select Add joint account
Enter joint account number
Enter alias (e.g. name of your chama)
Confirm details and accept terms & conditions
Enter your PIN

How do the other officials or signatories approve the set-up process?

A pop - up message will appear on the phones of all the other officials or signatories asking them to either approve or reject by entering their own secret PIN.

In case any signatory or official misses the pop-message, a notification will be sent to pending approvals which they can access later, at their convenience

What transactions can you initiate and approve from your joint or group account using Equitel?

Sending money to Equity bank accounts. This service is FREE
Sending money to any other bank account
Sending money to any mobile money (e.g. MPESA, Airtel money and Orange money)
Withdrawing cash from any Equity agent or Equity branch
Paying bills like KPLC, water and many more
Checking your group account balance

How to withdraw cash from Equity Agents

When you need to withdraw cash, your group members don't have to come to the agent with you. They can use their secret PIN to approve the withdrawal from wherever they are. Initiate the withdrawal on your phone and your signatories will receive your request on their phones.

Select Agent Withdraw
Select account
Enter agent number
Enter amount
Confirm details
Enter PIN

A pop-up message will appear on the Equitel lines of the other officials/signatories asking them to approve or reject the request to withdraw using their own secret PIN.

Once all officials or signatories have approved, you will receive a cash code via SMS, which you will present to the Equity Agent for cash withdrawal.
